A good script, a talented team of actors, a good thinking director and his technical staff is needed to make a good film, budget can vary. Udaan has opened the eyes of many who think a big canvas, bigger actors and hyper-active promotion needs to make a film successful. If that was the case Akshay Kumar has most hits in a year – luckily all his films flopped – even the ‘Tees Maar Khan’.
All Smiles for Ronit Roy

However, Udaan swept the award night with 7 awards in its kitty including Best Supporting Actor (Male), Best Film (Critics), Best Story, Cinematography, Screenplay, Best Background Music and Best Sound Design Award. While Shah Rukh Khan Starrer My Name is Khan made a good representation by winning the most popular awards-Best Director, Best Actor (Male), Best Actor (Female), and Arbaaz’s production Dabangg won six.

Filmfare Awards

The 56th Idea Filmfare Awards took place with the glitz and glitterati at the Yash-Raj Studios; it was a tribute to Yash Chopra who has been into filmmaking from the last 51 years.

As soon as the darkness enveloped the evening [lights], the milky lights found its way to the Yash-Raj Studios and a sea of celebrities started walking into the arena.

She looks gorgeous

The Red carpet is rolled out, laid for the stars to walk into the night of glamour, glitz, glitterati, lights and sound but no action voice heard. Soon Bollywood biggies started coming in herds to the Yash-Raj studios for most awaited Filmfare Awards – how fair, even God don’t know.

However, the 56th Idea Filmfare Awards was one of the most glamorous and gritty affair as always [better than other awards], Shah Rukh Khan performed with Madhuri Dixit and set ablaze the stage but the speculated drama between SRK and Salman Khan never happened as the later didn’t come to the award ceremony [he is on shoot]. Salman starrer ‘Dabangg’ and he himself was nominated in the Best Actor and Best Film category against head down ‘SRK’ who found his name for ‘My Name is Khan’.

Aish arrived with Amitabh Bachchan but Abhishek!!

The evening began with extremely beautiful faces and gorgeous curves. Of course they would have put all their makeup men busy whole day but it was worth a day, after we looked at their striking glow.

Amrita Puri - does she has any connections with Late. Amrish Puri

But, the most enthralling moment of night came when the announcement for awards began and it was ‘Udaan’ all over, making everyone feel the uneasiness. Bollywood Awards: Honor or a Dishonor https://www.bollywoodnites.com/2011/01/27/bollywood-awards-honor-or-a-dishonor/ https://www.bollywoodnites.com/2011/01/27/bollywood-awards-honor-or-a-dishonor/#respond Thu, 27 Jan 2011 08:19:30 +0000 http://www.bollywoodnites.com/?p=2954

The Oscars will be handed out on Sunday, Feb. 27, at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood and will be televised live on ABC.

While the movie buffs across the globe will fix their eyes to their television sets, newspapers and internet on February 27, 2011 to find out the winner of the Academy Awards 2011, an honor which an actor dreams as soon as he steps into the world of entertainment – Hollywood. Oscar Awards is no less than an honor and prestige for an actor in his/her career; it is so big that even the nominations fills an actor with the mist.

However, the question is not how fair or unfair the Hollywood awards are, but we are looking into the Bollywood awards with the perspective that how much an actor, director and technical department of our industry feel [honored or dishonored] with the awards bollywood strangely offers for the brilliant acting or films of the year, which on any scale discredits the performance to attendance.

Worth or Worthless!!

Many bollywood actors in the past just shook away the idea of attending a bollywood award events like, Filmfare, Screen Awards, Stardust Awards, Apsara Awards and many others which are more or less has become a backstage fixing.

Aamir Khan, one of the most successful actors in Bollywood has long time back declined attending these awards claiming they are no more than a pre-planned listing where lobbying matters than the performance.

Recently, few other actors have joined Aamir by terming these awards as an exercise depending on the attendance.  “Bahut baar aisa hua ki award function mein pehle bol dete hain, aap award function mein aao to aapko award diya jayega”, (It happens many time that you are asked that if you attend the function, you will get the award), said Madhur Bhandarkar, when he was asked about the award nights.

The National Award winner director gets voice in another National Award winner actor Ajay Devgan who also said, “If you attend the awards you get the awards”.

You can easily make out why these actors and directors are lambasting these events when you go through the nominations where even for the ‘Best Film’ awards they have at least three kinds of categories which make it a laughable material. In the words of Emraan Hashmi, “If you see any award ceremony, they are pleasing everyone. There are three categories for every actor… it’s ridiculous… and three awards given to music. I really don’t want to be part of the circus. The whole industry goes and claps for it but I don’t want to be part of it”.

There is no doubt that Bollywood awards are more or less influenced by some actors – biggies – like Shah Rukh Khan and Amitabh Bachchan to name a few, else Aishwarya Rai Bachchan (Zee Cine special jury award for ‘Guzaarish’) and SRK got Best Actor award for My Name is Khan, knowing the actor’s performance could have easily beaten by Hrithik Roshan (Guzaarish).

Now you have to think twice before clapping while watching a bollywood award ceremony.

5 Bollywood Hits of 2010 https://www.bollywoodnites.com/2010/12/28/5-bollywood-hits-2010/ https://www.bollywoodnites.com/2010/12/28/5-bollywood-hits-2010/#respond Tue, 28 Dec 2010 10:52:19 +0000 http://bollywoodcorner.wordpress.com/?p=2021

We are closing to the end of a happening year 2010, when scams and corruption took away the limelight and headlines more than anything else. Still entertainment industry has stolen some space from all the news stories that matters a lot to the common man. 2010 has been one of the best years for the Bollywood, the Mumbai film industry as six films have made to the top 30 list of the highest grossing film at the Indian Box-office (statistics till November).

The worldwide release of the films are catching up in the Bollywood and a lot of Hindi films were released worldwide with great success which includes year’s highest grossing films like, Dabangg, My Name is Khan, Once Upon a Time in Mumbai, Rajneeti and Golmaal3.

However, one film that has really kicked on the tempo for the Hindi cinema is Salman Khan Starrer Dabangg, produced by his younger brother ‘Makkhi’ Arbaaz Khan. Proudly for Arbaaz his wife ‘Malaika Arora’ now called ‘Munni’ set up everything for him before the release of Dabangg with her spicy item number ‘Munni Badnaam Hui’ that left even the ‘Zandu Balm’ makers massaging their pelvic, only to make the song their promotional video for the Zandu Balm.

Most of the year ‘Shah Rukh Khan’ kept a silent figure after the release of his controversial ‘My Name is Khan’ in February 2010. The star is said to be busy with the shooting of his two upcoming films ‘Don2’ and ‘Ra 1’. The 2010 has been a year Bollywood certainly look forward to repeat in 2011.

Here is the list of 5 top grosser of 2010 at the box-office:

Dabangg:

If ‘tere mast mast do nain’ was melodic debut for Shatrughan Sinha’s daughter ‘Sonakshi Sinha’ ‘Munni Badnaam Hui’ has added another feather to ‘Malaika Arora’s item girl image. Dabangg was a full entertainment with all the spices that makes a Bollywood ‘Masala’ movie. In 2009 Salman Khan got life with ‘Wanted’ but in 2010 ‘Dabangg’ Salman assured his fans that he has still left with a lot of muscle power to stand on top of the podium – are you listening Mr. SRK, we want your response.

‘Dabangg’ is one of all time blockbusters with an earning of 140,10,00,000 in India only. It shattered all box-office records previously held by 3Idiot, netting  14.5 crore on its opening day,  49.11 crore in its opening weekend and  80.87 crore in its first week of business. Dabangg currently holds the record of being only the second highest grossing bollywood film of all time after 3 Idiots. ‘Dabangg has also given debutant actress Sonakshi an ultimate platform to spell the magic of her eyes.

My Name is Khan:

When ‘Kajol’ and ‘Shah Rukh Khan’ came together for Karan Johar’s ‘My Name is Khan’ the predictions were out rightly in favor of the film. The Kajol-SRK pair is one of the most favorite Bollywood pairs in the industry. The release of ‘My Name is Khan’ hit the controversies with Shiv Sena in Mumbai burned SRK’s effigy over his support to the inclusion of Pakistani players in IPL.

However, controversies are part of Bollywood and most of the times it has gained. ‘My Name is Khan’ released under the Shiv Sena uproar and boycott and become a hit, if not a blockbuster. To SRK’s relief the film became the highest grossing Bollywood film overseas, fetching 110.34 crore.

Golmaal 3:

No sequel in Hindi cinema has done so well as ‘Golmaal’. Director Rohit Shetty has learned some cheap humor through ‘Laughter shows’ that he judge on Television. Golmaal 3 may have tickled the ribs of the movie goers but it wasn’t as good as its previous sequels ‘Golmaal’ and ‘Golmaal Return’. More or less Rohit has kept the same star cast for ‘Golmaal 3’ too only with the addition of Mithun Chakraborty and Kunal Khemu.

However, ‘Golmaal 3’ did fairly good business and profited with ‘Diwali’ release grossing 107,43,00,000 making it the fourth highest grossing film of all time at the Indian Box-office.

Rajneeti:

Prakash Jha is always known for his tight grip on the socio-political matters of Bihar, the state he hails from. Rajneeti is a bitter truth of politics, prominently Bihar but isn’t as gory has ‘Jha’ tried to convince us with Rajneeti. But, the film was a success at the box office, thanks to leading men and Katrina Kaif to bring their acting in front. Manoj Vajpayee, Arjun Rampal, Ajay Devgan, Nana Patekar and Ranbir Kapoor’s acting has put life to the film and Naseeruddin Shah in guest appearance gave extra milieu to the film. Katrina looked great but still her Hindi needs improvement, if she has to do well in films like ‘Rajneeti’.

Rajneeti is another blockbuster of the year after Golmaal 3 and Dabangg which goes to all time blockbuster films of Bollywood. Rajneeti grossed 92,93,00,000 at the Box-office and it was well received in overseas market too.

Once Upon a Time in Mumbai:

Here I will give space to Milan Lutharia’s Once Upon a Time in Mumbai rather than ‘Housefull’ which has grossed more income than ‘OUATIM’ but here I go with a better film rather than better earning. Once Upon a Time in Mumbai, once again bring ‘Ajay Devgan’ in his serious self where he speaks no nonsense and do not act as a jamboree like Golmaal 3. OUATIM is a graceful film to watch in a theater, it takes you to the Mumbai of 70’s when gangsters ruled the city.

It was a salute to the romantic settings of Mumbai of 70’s when the city was called Bombay. OUATIM earned lesser than Housefull but the film was a hit on the Indian box office with 58,03,00,000 and also earned handsomely overseas.

My Name is Khan – How Long They Will Attack!! https://www.bollywoodnites.com/2010/02/12/my-name-is-khan-how-long-they-will-attack/ https://www.bollywoodnites.com/2010/02/12/my-name-is-khan-how-long-they-will-attack/#respond Fri, 12 Feb 2010 06:54:14 +0000 http://bollywoodcorner.wordpress.com/?p=1849

Author: Zeenat Afshan

My Name is Khan has finally hit the theaters across India except Mumbai, because Mumbai is govern and controlled by none other than the hoodlums – Shiv Sena and MNS (Maharashtra Navnirman Sena) – who ransacked theaters and tore posters across Mumbai.

When things like this are happening around, no one would be willing to face the ire of those who are very much safe because State and Central government finds no answer to it – they think they will use it in the next elections– and they carry on rioting from years.

What was wrong if Shah Rukh Khan freely voiced the agony of millions cricket lovers that Pakistani players should have been treated in a better way – even if they were not be taken in the IPL3 (Indian Premier League) – because sports are above politics. Politics many a times divide people while sports try to fill the gorge between them.

The simple motto behind SRK’s comment would have been let sports alone, with IPL’s response not to choose the Pakistani players, the players must have felt ashamed. If they were not to be bought by the franchisees, they shouldn’t be put to auction rather been told meticulously that they cannot take part because of the security reasons.

A comment that caught the eyes of Shiv Sena who are least bothered about the image of India rather they are more concerned about their own political mileage. Patriotism and national interest is their least concern and it only shows in the words but it never came into action. If they had they would never ever tried to sabotage the constitutional rights of the people of India.

If they – Sena- have the freedom of expression – through Sena’s mouthpiece Saamna – why can’t an ordinary Indian – SRK may not be ordinary – use the same to say what he feels? Read Saamna editorials and you will find nothing about development but everything will be subjected to political, regional and religious division over which they have constructed Maatoshree.

How long an artist – MF Hussain – an actor Shah Rukh Khan and a director Karan Johar would forcibly apologize – to save their neck or else has to run away from India?

Not easy to comment over the film success or failure but it has lead to arguments and discussions that how long the politics of division, rioting and forcibly seizing a city or a state would continue?

SRK’s query on Love https://www.bollywoodnites.com/2010/01/31/srks-query-on-love/ https://www.bollywoodnites.com/2010/01/31/srks-query-on-love/#respond Sun, 31 Jan 2010 17:08:48 +0000 http://bollywoodcorner.wordpress.com/?p=1838

While Shiv Sena has pointed all their guns towards Shah Rukh Khan for his comment over controversial exclusion of Pakistani players from IPL 3, the Badshah of Bollywood is all geared up with ‘Love Message’.

In a special promotion campaign SRK will be asking a question on ‘Love’, How far you can go for love? It is a promotional campaign for his upcoming film ‘My Name is Khan’ which is slated to release on February 12.

“Yes, there is this huge campaign that has been designed around the strong essence of love that ‘My Name Is Khan’ carries. As a part of this, Shah Rukh would be travelling across the country and pop this question to the ‘aam janta’. This would be his way of connecting with people who are waiting to catch him in ‘My Name Is Khan’,” Karan, who has produced and directed the film, told IANS

Asking Sena about Love!!

SRK would be meeting the ‘Aam Janta’ with his query on ‘love’; this has become a trend in bollywood in the last few years. Bollywood biggies like Aamir Khan, Salman Khan and Abhishek Bachchan applied it for their respective films and even Shah Rukh did it in 2006 for ‘Don – The Chase Begins Again’.

“This is going to be a pan-India initiative and won’t be restricted to metros or cosmopolitan cities. In addition, there would be a lot of other things happening to facilitate the film’s promotion,” Karan said.

“…The idea of asking people ‘How far would you go for love?’ should be quite enticing for many out there. It should be a good participative exercise,” the filmmaker added.

The film is one of the most awaited films of 2010 as bollywood’s most successful ‘Jodi’ pair of SRK and Kajol will again raise the temperature on celluloid after eight long years.

“My Name Is Khan”, which is being marketed and distributed by Fox Searchlight Pictures, is about Rizwan Khan (Shah Rukh), an autist, who is mistaken for a terrorist while travelling in the US. Karan, Shah Rukh and Kajol have teamed up so far for candy-floss movies…so how come they decided to opt for different kind of cinema?

“I just felt that cinema is maturing with every passing year and I should move on with the times as well,” Karan said with a smile.

One gets a rare chance to see bollywood’s two iconic Khans – Aamir Khan and Shahrukh Khan –  together on one stage and when it happens  it becomes an eye catcher.
Finally together!

SRK arrived at the premier of Aamir’s latest release 3 Idiots proclaiming himself  the 4th Idiot, both had some secret conversation as well but the moment was one of the most happiest for the Bollywood.

SRK: Now you have to come for the promotion of 'My Name Is Khan"

It seems both Khans have buried the hatchet created last year when both have their releases – Ghajini and Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi – within a week difference.

Am I the 4th Idiot!? What about Salman
Happy Moments!

With SRK attending the premier of Aamir’s film, it is now looking obvious that Aamir could be the man to promote Shahrukh’s upcoming ‘My Name Is Khan’ which is ready to release soon.

My Name is Khan
My Name is Khan

With Shahrukh Khan’s romantic tale ‘Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi’ and Aamir Khan’s ‘Ghajini’ making big at the box-office, Indian film industry has heaved a sigh of relief. But the tough days are far from over, with a number of big-budget movies lined up for release in 2009, huge amount of money is on stake.

Luckily both SRK and Aamir managed to bring people back to theaters despite looming threats of terror strikes and economic recession. But, it could not have bee possible without ‘Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi’ and ‘Ghajini’ having good script, direction and well thought stories.

Now the big question is – Who will carry on the ‘Khan Success Story’ into 2009?

Let us have a look at some of the most awaited or talked about upcoming movies of the year 2009:

3 Idiots

Director: Rajkumar Hirani
Cast: Aamir Khan, Sharman Joshi, R Madhavan, Kareena Kapoor

3 Idiots has surely got an edge as Aamir is there to ensure it smooth box-office riding. The movie is based on Chetan Bhagat’s first novel Five Point Someone. 3 Idiots will have Aamir playing student once again after successful Dil Chahta Hai a few years back. Another high point is hot actress Kareena’s presence. This is Kareenaa’s first movie with perfectionist Khan.

My Name is Khan

Director: Karan Johar
Cast: Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol

This one has got success written all over it, Shahrukh and Kajol coming together after a gap of eight years [last seen together in Karan Johar’s Kabi Khushi Kabi Gham] and once again the most loved cinematic pair is being directed by Karan Johar. It’s believed that the movie is loosely based on Tom Cruises hit movie Rain Man. The movie is not at all a candy floss romantic flick but a hard hitting story of a Muslim guy named Rizwan (Shahrukh Khan) who is wrongly accused of terrorist acts in L.A. But whatever be the case- the magic of SRK and Kajol’s charismatic presence is sure to yield results.

Kambhakkt Ishq

Director: Sabir Khan
Cast: Akshay Kumar, Kareena Kapoor, Sylvester Stallone, Denise Richards

Sajid Nadiadwala penchant of grand cinema made him look westwards for his upcoming movie ‘Kambhakkt Ishq’ starting hot guy Akshay Kumar and sexy Kareena Kapoor. But the film is making news for the some other reasons; the presence of Hollywood star-cast, ‘Kambhakkt Ishq’ will have Hollywood action man Sylvester Stallone and Denise Richards in special appearances. Now this is something really interesting and big.

London Dreams

Director: Vipul Shah

Cast: Salman Khan, Ajay Devgan, Asin

With Salman Khan struggling to keep pace with other two Khans’ it would be interesting to see how Asin and Ajay’s presence is going to affect Sallu. London Dreams was originally being directed by Rajkumar Santoshi but like most of his projects this too got shelved for some time till Vipul Shah took over. Vipul retained the hit combo of Salman-Ajay while adding Asin smile on his own. Now with London Dreams already turning heads because of Sallu-Asin on-screen romance, the movie is expected to end drought for Salman and Bollywood as well.

Kites

Director: Anurag Basu

Cast: Hrithik Roshan, Kangana Ranaut, Barbara Mori

After the success of ‘Jodhaa Akbar’ Hrithik Roshan took a long and well deserved break (barring a small role in Zoya Akhtar’s Luck By Chance), but now he’s back with what he’s best at: romance. In Kites Hrithik is romancing Latino beauty Barbara Mori and Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut for the cameras under the watchful eye of director Anurag Basu. With parameters of success raised to its peak by Aamir Khan, it would be interesting to see Hrithik trying his bit to survive.
