The Karbonn Mobile 17th Star Screen Awards organized at MMRDA Ground in Mumbai’s Bandra-Kurla Complex on January 6, 2011 has made one thing clear that only those films deserve an award that serves a meaningful cinema to the audience rather than big budget and big canvas.

The silent Assassin – Ajay Devgn https://www.bollywoodnites.com/2010/12/30/the-silent-assassin-ajay-devgn/ https://www.bollywoodnites.com/2010/12/30/the-silent-assassin-ajay-devgn/#respond Wed, 29 Dec 2010 20:23:35 +0000 http://www.bollywoodnites.com/?p=2073

He doesn’t bear the looks which could make women drool over their eyes on him, but with time he has developed a character that can leave women asking for more. Ajay Devgn doesn’t come with a chocolate face that bollywood demands for a ‘Hero’. However, he carved his own niche in the industry, first as an action hero and later developed himself into an actor who can fit to any role, even in the ‘Comedy’ genre.

We can’t downplay what Ajay has achieved in his career when as an action hero his chips were down. It was in 1999 when Mahesh Bhatt’s ‘Zakhm’ brought him to life and he won ‘National Award for Best Actor’ for his role in the film.

Eleven years passed since he has in a sense started his second innings, looking beyond the typical ‘action drama’ movies. Now, Ajay has earned a reputation of ‘Mr. Dependable’, only the second man after ‘Rahul Dravid’ who enjoys the same nickname in the Indian Cricketing milieu.

In 2010, Ajay Devgn played a variety of roles successfully, four of his films ‘Rajneeti’ ‘Once Upon a Time in Mumbai’ ‘Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge’ and ‘Golmaal 3’ became a box-office success. ‘Rajneeti’ and ‘Golmaal 3’ deserve a special mention for their ‘Blockbuster’ status. The only film that didn’t do well for him was Priyadarshan’s ‘Aakrosh’ even after getting good reviews. But, you can’t take the credit away from the man who when doesn’t move his lips, his eyes do the talking.

Despite all the success Ajay keeps a silent figure in media, unlike the Khans ‘Shah Rukh Khan’ Salam Khan’ and ‘Aamir Khan’ who are said to be running the bollywood; sometimes with hits and sometimes with their fights in public domain, Ajay is calmly moving towards a career where the setting sun leaves the skies illuminated.

With a successful year behind, Ajay will be seen in the beginning of the year in Madhur Bhandarkar’s soft comedy ‘Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji’ along with ‘Emraan Hashmi’ and ‘Omi Vaidya’ of 3 Idiot fame (Chatur).

5 Bollywood Hits of 2010 https://www.bollywoodnites.com/2010/12/28/5-bollywood-hits-2010/ https://www.bollywoodnites.com/2010/12/28/5-bollywood-hits-2010/#respond Tue, 28 Dec 2010 10:52:19 +0000 http://bollywoodcorner.wordpress.com/?p=2021

We are closing to the end of a happening year 2010, when scams and corruption took away the limelight and headlines more than anything else. Still entertainment industry has stolen some space from all the news stories that matters a lot to the common man. 2010 has been one of the best years for the Bollywood, the Mumbai film industry as six films have made to the top 30 list of the highest grossing film at the Indian Box-office (statistics till November).

The worldwide release of the films are catching up in the Bollywood and a lot of Hindi films were released worldwide with great success which includes year’s highest grossing films like, Dabangg, My Name is Khan, Once Upon a Time in Mumbai, Rajneeti and Golmaal3.

However, one film that has really kicked on the tempo for the Hindi cinema is Salman Khan Starrer Dabangg, produced by his younger brother ‘Makkhi’ Arbaaz Khan. Proudly for Arbaaz his wife ‘Malaika Arora’ now called ‘Munni’ set up everything for him before the release of Dabangg with her spicy item number ‘Munni Badnaam Hui’ that left even the ‘Zandu Balm’ makers massaging their pelvic, only to make the song their promotional video for the Zandu Balm.

Most of the year ‘Shah Rukh Khan’ kept a silent figure after the release of his controversial ‘My Name is Khan’ in February 2010. The star is said to be busy with the shooting of his two upcoming films ‘Don2’ and ‘Ra 1’. The 2010 has been a year Bollywood certainly look forward to repeat in 2011.

Here is the list of 5 top grosser of 2010 at the box-office:

Dabangg:

If ‘tere mast mast do nain’ was melodic debut for Shatrughan Sinha’s daughter ‘Sonakshi Sinha’ ‘Munni Badnaam Hui’ has added another feather to ‘Malaika Arora’s item girl image. Dabangg was a full entertainment with all the spices that makes a Bollywood ‘Masala’ movie. In 2009 Salman Khan got life with ‘Wanted’ but in 2010 ‘Dabangg’ Salman assured his fans that he has still left with a lot of muscle power to stand on top of the podium – are you listening Mr. SRK, we want your response.

‘Dabangg’ is one of all time blockbusters with an earning of 140,10,00,000 in India only. It shattered all box-office records previously held by 3Idiot, netting  14.5 crore on its opening day,  49.11 crore in its opening weekend and  80.87 crore in its first week of business. Dabangg currently holds the record of being only the second highest grossing bollywood film of all time after 3 Idiots. ‘Dabangg has also given debutant actress Sonakshi an ultimate platform to spell the magic of her eyes.

My Name is Khan:

When ‘Kajol’ and ‘Shah Rukh Khan’ came together for Karan Johar’s ‘My Name is Khan’ the predictions were out rightly in favor of the film. The Kajol-SRK pair is one of the most favorite Bollywood pairs in the industry. The release of ‘My Name is Khan’ hit the controversies with Shiv Sena in Mumbai burned SRK’s effigy over his support to the inclusion of Pakistani players in IPL.

However, controversies are part of Bollywood and most of the times it has gained. ‘My Name is Khan’ released under the Shiv Sena uproar and boycott and become a hit, if not a blockbuster. To SRK’s relief the film became the highest grossing Bollywood film overseas, fetching 110.34 crore.

Golmaal 3:

No sequel in Hindi cinema has done so well as ‘Golmaal’. Director Rohit Shetty has learned some cheap humor through ‘Laughter shows’ that he judge on Television. Golmaal 3 may have tickled the ribs of the movie goers but it wasn’t as good as its previous sequels ‘Golmaal’ and ‘Golmaal Return’. More or less Rohit has kept the same star cast for ‘Golmaal 3’ too only with the addition of Mithun Chakraborty and Kunal Khemu.

However, ‘Golmaal 3’ did fairly good business and profited with ‘Diwali’ release grossing 107,43,00,000 making it the fourth highest grossing film of all time at the Indian Box-office.

Rajneeti:

Prakash Jha is always known for his tight grip on the socio-political matters of Bihar, the state he hails from. Rajneeti is a bitter truth of politics, prominently Bihar but isn’t as gory has ‘Jha’ tried to convince us with Rajneeti. But, the film was a success at the box office, thanks to leading men and Katrina Kaif to bring their acting in front. Manoj Vajpayee, Arjun Rampal, Ajay Devgan, Nana Patekar and Ranbir Kapoor’s acting has put life to the film and Naseeruddin Shah in guest appearance gave extra milieu to the film. Katrina looked great but still her Hindi needs improvement, if she has to do well in films like ‘Rajneeti’.

Rajneeti is another blockbuster of the year after Golmaal 3 and Dabangg which goes to all time blockbuster films of Bollywood. Rajneeti grossed 92,93,00,000 at the Box-office and it was well received in overseas market too.

Once Upon a Time in Mumbai:

Here I will give space to Milan Lutharia’s Once Upon a Time in Mumbai rather than ‘Housefull’ which has grossed more income than ‘OUATIM’ but here I go with a better film rather than better earning. Once Upon a Time in Mumbai, once again bring ‘Ajay Devgan’ in his serious self where he speaks no nonsense and do not act as a jamboree like Golmaal 3. OUATIM is a graceful film to watch in a theater, it takes you to the Mumbai of 70’s when gangsters ruled the city.

It was a salute to the romantic settings of Mumbai of 70’s when the city was called Bombay. OUATIM earned lesser than Housefull but the film was a hit on the Indian box office with 58,03,00,000 and also earned handsomely overseas.

Rajneeti – First Look https://www.bollywoodnites.com/2010/02/18/rajneeti-first-look/ https://www.bollywoodnites.com/2010/02/18/rajneeti-first-look/#respond Thu, 18 Feb 2010 10:16:58 +0000 http://bollywoodcorner.wordpress.com/?p=1867

A political

Politics is a game and everyone has one simple intention, to win. Prakash Jha’s ‘Rajneeti’ does not overlap the virtue of today’s politics albeit it transpires to be in its essence.

Prakash Jha has made a mark for making films on socio-political issues and Rajneeti is an extension to his earlier works – Damul, Mrityudand, Gangajal and Apharan – on the subject of social evil in the Hindi Heartland.

Is ‘Rajneeti’ belongs to the soil from where the scripts of Gangajal, Apharan and Mrityudand found a route to reach other parts of India? Fictionally it is but factually looking at the promos it seems to be a story woven around the biggest political clan of India but that seems to be wrapped under the canopy. It will come out only after the release of the film.

Before Rajneeti could see its release on 28 May 2010, a controversy or you can say a demand from the distributors has warmed up. They has asked Prakash Jha to leak a steamy scene from the film that was shot on Ranbir Kapoor and his American co-star Sarah Thompson – Jha missed and Italian – and those who have seen the rushes they believe it could leave Hrithik Roshan and Barbara Mori sequences in ‘Kites’ which is about to release in a weak.

However Jha isn’t buying the idea of bringing the audience to the theater on the promise of sex when the star cast of the film is enough powerful to bring the audience to the theater.

If Ranbir Kapoor is the meanest and the most manipulative character in ‘Rajneeti’ Ajay Devgan plays an underdog politician, the film also boast actors like Naseeruddin Shah, Nana Patekar, Arjun Rampal, Manoj Bajpai and Katrina Kaif.

Is there a fall-out between Ranbir and Deepika?? https://www.bollywoodnites.com/2009/10/22/is-there-a-fall-out-between-ranbir-and-deepika/ https://www.bollywoodnites.com/2009/10/22/is-there-a-fall-out-between-ranbir-and-deepika/#respond Thu, 22 Oct 2009 19:09:21 +0000 http://bollywoodcorner.wordpress.com/?p=1686

Deepika Padukone must be looking around to find a way to prevent her long relationship with Ranbir Kapoor to go hay-way. The media reports suggest that the youngest Bollywood couples are not on talking terms with each other citing reason of Ranbir’s growing closeness with his co-star of ‘Rocket Singh – Salesman of the Year’ Shazahn Padamsee (daughter of Ad-man Alyque Padamsee).
Ranbir have enough reasons to get attarcted towards the beautiful face..
Ranbir have enough reasons to get attarcted towards the beautiful face..

Deepika and Ranbir have been going steady in a relationship since making their debuts in 2007, but they had a fight over the weekend after which Ranbir left for Bhopal to complete Parkash Jha’s ‘Rajneeti’.

According to reports Deepika knows that “there is something wrong between the two” and that is a reason why she went to Bhopal on the sets of ‘Rajneeti’.

No more together
No more together

It is a matter of concern for Deepika as Shazahn live close to Ranbir’s house in Bandra and two have some common friends as well as common interest (eating and hanging out), to make matter considerably thoughtful for ‘Om Shanti Om’ girl, Ranbir personally invited Shazahn for the screening of ‘Wake Up Sid’.

What would be the outcome of this love-triangle is yet far away to reach but one thing is sure, it is a wake up call for Deepika!!
