On the roads of ‘Raaz’, Vishal Bhardawaj and Ekta Kapoor has set their feet to make a musical super natural titled Daayan. For the film they have got a creative director in the likes of Abhishek Chaubey, who surprised everyone with ‘Ishqiya’.

When there are three ladies to romance with, no one will suit best than Emraan Hashmi for the role. The actor is roped for the film. It will be his first with Vishal who has a habit of having a good punch at the box-office.

An insider told Mumbai Mirror, “It is going to be a thriller with super natural elements in it. It’s a new genre for Indian cinema. The interesting part is that Abhishek Chaubey has also signed on as the creative producer for the film. And with Vishal, the film is bound to be a musical.”

The ladies are yet to be decided. It was rumored that Rani Mukherjee will play one of the leading character of the film but we have heard the ‘Bong’ girl is actually said ‘No’, petrified by the title.

While Ekta told the tabloid, “When contacted, Ekta confirmed the same and added, “Yes, Vishal and I are planning a drama with a breakthrough genre.

It will be replete with thrills, chartbusting music and supernatural elements. Three young and happening girls will be cast opposite Emraan.”

Review – No One Killed Jessica https://www.bollywoodnites.com/2011/01/08/review-no-one-killed-jessica/ https://www.bollywoodnites.com/2011/01/08/review-no-one-killed-jessica/#respond Sat, 08 Jan 2011 07:56:36 +0000 http://www.bollywoodnites.com/?p=2555

Filming a real life story that has already been a part of the news and newsrooms for years in indubitably is a difficult task. In spite of this fact, we must appreciate director ‘Raj Kumar Gupta’ for his brave attempt of narrating one of the most sensational real life stories following the murder of model ‘Jessica Lal’ at a Delhi nightclub in 1999. There are no surprises for guessing that above all, the director takes refuge in his cinematic liberties and thereby deviates a bit from the real story in some of the aspects like the character of Rani Mukherjee, who plays dual characters of journalist and an investigating police officer of the murder makes people wonder. But this is more imagery than real.

We can’t deny the fact that Rani Mukherjee in spite of being loud and sheer in some of the scenes look unmistakably wondering but it was balanced more or less by Meera Gaity who played a media woman puts a rocking performance. Vidya Balan as Sabrina Lal (Jessica’s sister was Sabrina) appears to be a bit subdue though overall she has delivered a good performance.  The two leading ladies are indeed the soul and spirit of the film. Other casts of the film Model turned actress Myra Karn who played Jessica Lal in the film doesn’t pull any surprises but she looked fine.

She makes her debut with this film and as a debutant she appears well versed with the role. Her appearances in the flashback are well portrayed and have come at a critical time in the film which gives a new and well perceived dimension to the story. Apart from these, Rajesh Sharma (we saw him as KK in Ishqiya), who played the investigating police officer, was perfect. Shireesh Sharma as a politician, who tries to save his son has also done a great job.

Model turned actress Myra Karn played Jessica in the film

10 on 10 go to Anay Goswamy’s cinematography. The music by Amit Trivedi is definitely ruling the charts especially the songs ‘ike dilli dilli’ and ‘aali re’ are a huge hit .The rest of the songs too are brilliant and are in line with the film’s demand. Trivedi gave a catchy and lively music that uplifts the spirit behind the story. Dialogues by Rajkumar Gupta speak of realism and truism. But we should not forget that the brazen language just reflects real conversations. Editing by Aarti Bajaj could have been a bit better by trimming down the dragged scenes (candle-light vigil at India Gate) in the film.

Why to watch the film?? A difficult question indeed, the film is replete with double meanings and vulgar language which will surely make it difficult to watch the film with your entire family. However, in a sense, Gupta is successful in portraying the story well, if not then no one would have sat down till the end to watch the climax of the film.

Would like to rate it as 3/5. Go for it if you want to give realism a try or else sit at home and sip a cup coffee.

Bollywood Releases in January 2011 https://www.bollywoodnites.com/2011/01/06/bollywood-releases-in-january-2011/ https://www.bollywoodnites.com/2011/01/06/bollywood-releases-in-january-2011/#respond Wed, 05 Jan 2011 18:36:33 +0000 http://www.bollywoodnites.com/?p=2471

The very first month of 2011 will witness a clash among the likes of Aamir Khan, Madhur Bhandarkar and Prakash Jha – the biggies of Bollywood – at the box-office. This could be mouth watering contest among three to tell the industry who is who.

Kiran Rao will set the celluloid, hopefully on fire with Superstar Hubby Aamir Khan to take us on a ride to DHOBI GHAT which is slated to release on 21st of January. The past record of Aamir’s production isn’t very interesting when it comes to women directors making experimental films. But we hope Kiran will turn the table in favor of Mr. Perfectionist, to live happily ever after.

Kiran Rao debut as Director with Dhobi Ghat

The month will also see Samir Karnik once again on the center stage – earlier directed Heroes (an average outing) – with Deol family bonanza YAMLA PAGAL DEEWANA releasing on 14th January. The trailers look promising, making it one of the most viewed teasers in its very first week of release. We just hope this sweet family (Dharmendra & Sons) get to taste a success together after debacle of ‘Apne’ and ‘Dillagi’.

The Deol's once again come together, will they be successful?

NO ONE KILLED JESSICA– Having agreed to the fact that “No one watched Rani” in 2010. She comes up with a strong statement. Rani has teamed up with the talented Vidya Balan and Raj Kumar Gupta, who was highly appreciated for “Aamir’. This one is going to be the Dark Horse of them all. Expectations are high with ‘No One Killed Jessica’ for being a movie based on a true story.

Can Rani pull it this time?

2010 was the year of Ajay Devgn and in 2011 he has teamed up with Madhur Bhandarkar in a light hearted romantic comedy “DIL TO BACHCHA HAI JI “which is slated to release in the last week of January, on 28th.  It seems Bhandarkar is playing safe this time around after witnessing the fate of the Bhansalis and Gowarikars in too serious movies and believed more on bigger canvas. These two have always disagreed with the fact (when even the weather could change, why can’t we), after all “DIL TO BACHCHA HAI JI”.

Ajay Devgn once again coming to tickle the ribs.

When we could not digest a 40 year old Pamela romping around, a month back, how could we take Gul Panaag, who is frivolously tweeting about her ‘Turning 30’. Prakash Jha should have turned 18 instead of TURNING 30. To at least get a good opening.

Gul is still turning 30...

ASHOKA-the hero (an animation film about the life of King Ashoka), it is a suggestion to bollywood that they should stop making animated movies. We have seen ‘Jumbo’ ‘Toonpur ka Super Hero’ and ‘Roadside Romeo’ where Akshay Kumar, Ajay Devgn and Saif Ali Khan couldn’t save these films from becoming a fun in their own. The makers of Ashoka should start taking precautions, I will not suggest an ‘iPill’ that will be too strong recommendation, but they should look into it.

Can this change the animation liking?

Apart from that, January brings to you ‘Yeh Faasle’, ’Vikalp’, ’Impatient Vivek’, ’Hostel’, and ‘Mumbai mast Kalandar’. That was more than an introduction.
